First Step: Eliminate Moisture

Indoor air quality has become an important issue in our everyday lives. The types of toxins we breathe in our home and work place should be a concern to everyone.

Mold is an organism that is a fungi. Fungi are neither animal nor plant and are classified in a kingdom of their own. Fungi includes molds, yeasts, and mushrooms. Unlike plants, molds lack chlorophyll and must survive by digesting plant materials, using plant and other organic materials for food. Without molds, our environment would be overwhelmed with large amounts of dead plant matter.

Molds reproduce by making spores. Mold spores waft through the indoor and outdoor air continually. These spores can get indoors through doors, windows, or cracks and crevices, or be carried in from the outdoors on shoes and clothing, pets and insects. Building materials that were left outside before use can harbor mold spores for many years. When moldy material becomes damaged or disturbed spores can be released into the air. Exposure can occur if people inhale the spores, directly handle moldy materials, or accidentally ingest it.

When excessive moisture accumulates in buildings or on building materials mold growth will often occur, particularly if the moisture problem remains undiscovered or unaddressed. It is impossible to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment. However, mold growth can be controlled indoors by controlling moisture indoors. We will use electronic detection and visual inspection to find leaks, condensation, wet materials...anything that fuels fungal growth. Only then can remediation be successful.

Our Process

Every mold problem will be addressed individually without the "one size fits all" approach, tailoring the solution that will best suit your needs and your budget. As a general rule, moisture control is the key to mold control. Because of this, the underlying moisture problem that caused the mold growth must be identified and corrected. After this has been done, the removal or cleanup of mold can begin. High filtration vacuuming, sanding, various cleaning procedures and even removal of materials may be required.

Instead of dictating the way in which things must be done, we will give you all of the pertinent information so that you can help in decisions about what is the right approach to take regarding the mold that is in your home or office. In all cases, common sense plays a big role in determining what needs to be done. In instances where there is a small amount of mold growth (less than 10 sq. ft.) in an isolated area, all that may be needed is to cut it out and throw it away. Larger areas (greater than 100 sq. ft.) may need specialized equipment and containment barriers to prevent cross contamination and further damage to the building.

MPH is prepared to deal with any situation. We are equipped to handle the largest jobs using negative pressure containments and the most up-to-date decontamination techniques. We can also efficiently handle the smaller, simpler jobs that other companies like to turn into expensive projects. The bottom line is we will work WITH you to make the BEST decision for you.

Facts About Mold

Mold spores can be present without the appearance of visible mold.

Not all molds are harmful to humans, but some can produce toxins.

There is no practical way to eliminate all mold and mold spores in the indoor environment; the way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture.

Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on virtually any substance, providing moisture is present. There are molds that can grow on wood, paper, carpet, and foods.
